Sharing a true story this week.
I worked with a business leader to give a fair chance to a lady - who was about to conclude her maternity break - to apply for an open position. She was an excellent performer, well skilled, and high-potential, but when we gave her that news, she provided a very thoughtful response. (see the caricature below).
(Intent + Process) => Inspires the Inclusion:
Intent sparks commitment and purpose, which drives inspiration, whereas Process ensures action and exercise for inclusion.
Her words after the interview (before declaration of final shortlist) were equally refreshing: Whatever be the outcome of this process, I felt inspired, belonged, relevant and empowered when you included me in this, not because of my being a women, but based on merit and value I can bring on the table.
While she was selected at the end, however what remained in my memory is not the outcome, but how intent and process inspired her inclusion.
